As a budget backpacker, I rarely go on all inclusive holidays. I used to find that they almost defeated the purpose of āproper travellingā as everything was so easy. I also presumed that they were always more money and never better value. However, as Iām recovering from a big operation (endometriosis excision surgery) and this is my first travel since, I thought Iād give it a try at Melleiha Bay Hotel in Malta! After all, everyone needs a package holiday from time to time!
Melleiha Bay Hotel Review – All Inclusive

We headed to Melleiha Bay, Malta, for an all inclusive break. For just £435 each, we were treated to flights, transfers, three meals a day plus snacks and food for 7 nights.
That actually works out at about £62 per day for everything. If I was eating out and travelling in the UK, if spend way more. Plus, if you take a hundred quid off for the flights (which is nothing) it becomes less than £50 a night. As this also includes sports facilities, evening entertainment and alcohol, I think we got a pretty old deal!
Melleiha Bay Hotel Location
The location of Melleiha Bay Hotel was slightly more remote than Iād expected. Maybe I thought we would be closer to more bars and restaurants. But actually, they were not needed as we had everything on site. The view of Melleiha Bay is beautiful.
Food at Melleiha Bay Hotel, Malta
The food was excellent, with a cooked breakfast every morning and three courses for lunch and dinner, it was never gonna help me lose weight to get into my wedding dress! ?

But I did eat well. The selection of food was international so there was always something for everyone, including fish, meat, curry and salad dishes. There was always more than one type of dessert! ?

The on-site bar was open all day everyday with snacks such as burgers and chicken nuggets available in the afternoons.
It was nice to have alcohol on demand, I must admit, but I wasnāt drinking a great deal due to being post-op. Still, I enjoyed several gin and tonics but didnāt go overboard, which I can see could be a problem with all inclusive! Remember that your free drinks stop at mid night, so stock up around quarter to!
Facilities and Rooms at Melleiha Bay Hotel
The great thing about Melleiha Bay Hotel is that it is built so that all the rooms are sea view. If you are looking for a relaxing holiday with everything in-site, but also the opportunity to do some tours and easily pop over to Gozo, this is the perfect holiday for you.
The rooms are clean and comfortable, with TV, WIFI and toiletries provided. The facilities on site at the Melleiha Bay Hotel were excellent. We enjoyed playing ping pong and swimming. There were activities scheduled daily such as dance classes, aqua aerobics and Zumba.
Tours of the Island and Travelling Malta from Melleiha Bay
During the holiday at Melleiha Bay we went on two excellent tours. One was the heart of Malta tour including Mdina, Hagar Qim and Mosta Rotunda. The second was a day tour of Valletta. Thereās actually a lot more to see in Malta than I expected – we were taking it easy and didnāt get over to Gozo, which is something Iād love to do in the future.
Should you go All Inclusive at Melleiha Bay Hotel?
Iāve got to admit that Iām an all inclusive convert. I travel on a budget hardcore most of the time. But, if you are looking to eat and drink a lot and spend some time relaxing, avoiding package holidays and all inclusive can be a false economy. We saved time by not going to the supermarket and agreeing on restaurants all of the time. And letās face it, we certainly got our moneyās worth!
