Romanian Music Festivals – The Season Begins!

Romanian Festivals

Summer has officially started, and the Romanian festival season has started too. What am I talking about? Well, if you are not aware yet, Romania is the host of some huge music festivals that take place throughout the summer. And when I say huge, I mean really big. The festivals happen over periods of several days. Romanian festivals showcase famous international artists, and they are a great way of getting to know Romania.

So let’s see what the fuss is all about
These are 5 of the most important festivals you could attend this summer in Romania:

Neversea (www.neversea.com)

Neversea music festival takes place on the Neversea beach in Constanta, a large Romanian city located by the Black Sea. The festival lasts for 4 days and 4 nights (from 12pm to 8am). It has 5 stages, and it brings together big names of the dance music scene.

The Romanian seaside offers a lot of accommodation options like hotels, campings and Airbnb’s. Festival guests can enjoy the sea, the sand, the music, and everything else the beach life is all about.

Untold (www.untold.com)

Untold takes place every year at Cluj Arena, a big stadium located in Cluj-Napoca, Transylvania. This is the largest festival in Romania, and in 2015, it won the award for the “Best Major European Festival”.

Untold gained a lot of popularity thanks to its excellent organisation and big musical names it brings together on the same stage. But is also attracted a lot of attention thanks to its marketing campaign, “Pay with Blood”. The inspiration for this campaign came from the fact that Transylvania is well known in the world in connection to Dracula and vampire stories. Basically, “Pay with Blood” campaign gives blood donors the right to receive free tickets to the festival. The campaign was such a success, that other festivals, like Neversea, also adopted the practice.

The festival website sells both day tickets and 4 days passes that include the entry fee, accommodation, and free sightseeing visits to the areas surrounding Cluj-Napoca.

In 2019, Untold happens from the 1st to the 4th of August. Some of the famous artists that will go on the stage are: Robin Williams, David Guetta, Armin van Buuren and Martin Garrix.

Electric Castle (www.electriccastle.ro)

This eclectic music festival takes place every year over a period of 5 days on the domain of BĂĄnffy Castle. The domain is located in the historic village of Bontida, near Cluj-Napoca, Transylvania, and has a charming, rural vibe.

BĂĄnffy Castle was badly damaged during World War II and it was sadly ignored by the Communist regime. One of the aims of the festival is to raise money for the restoration of BĂĄnffy Castle. The campaign “Give me a Brick” gives festival participants the opportunity to donate money for the reconstruction of this beautiful historical building. The festival organisers are pleased to announce that the roof of the castle has been completely restored and the money will go now to the reinforcing and consolidation of the main structure.

Participants have the option of buying packages that include accommodation in one of the tents or small cabins of the on-site camping area. The camping has flush toilets and showers, supermarket, grill area, coffee shop and lounge areas.
